"Science is best defined as a careful, disciplined, logical search for
knowledge about any and all aspects of the universe, obtained by
examination of the best available evidence and always subject to
correction and improvement upon discovery of better evidence. What's
left is magic, and it doesn't work." James Randi (1928-2020)

I've been saying this for 15 years here but some still claim science is
dogmatism. Some still hold out hope that magic/divinity might yet exist
in the universe. Sigh.

I never said it wasn’t true. I said you are beating a dead
horse. You are as persistent as a carload of Jehovah’s
Witnesses. Live and let live. Stop preaching to everyone.
Who the heck are you to tell people how to think?

The man of copious verbiage suddenly has nothing to
say. Interesting.
I am just demonstrating how silly you are. Repeating the
same thing for 15 years to get an argument going is dumb.
People who agree with you (like me) don’t need your “help.”

People who disagree with you won’t change their mind.
As I said, you are annoying as a carload of Jehovah’s
Witnesses. At least they stop for a year or so before they
return. Maybe like them, with you, “Hope springs eternal.”

So: Monkey nuts!

Yes, very nice. I'm making a steel leaf today. You have to do it
wrong several times to get it right. Wish I had met/apprenticed with
Mike 25-30 years ago. He'd reduce my trial and error learning. As
previously mentioned, I went to a gathering of the Maritime Blacksmiths
Association in November and I mentioned his name. All of them agreed he
was the best they'd ever seen when he was in his prime.

Anyhow, it's good weather for this as it's not too cold, not too
hot, and not too windy. Beautiful weather for any kind of outdoor work.
If I get it down pat, I can make you a steel doghouse with leaf
decorations and fleur-de-lis hinges - I'm sure you'll spend a lot of
time in it when you annoy your wife too much. :-)

Note to Mike if you are reading this: A few days ago I was rooting
around in my shed and I found a treasure. I have two full cans of the
old MAPP Gas (methylacetylene-propadiene propane) that I bought 20+
years ago. I have to use it sparingly as there ain't gonna be anymore
available. All we can get today is Map-Pro
(methylacetylene-propadiene.)

It sure beats contemplating the nature of reality, but I can do that in

It is a special doghouse, with the same properties as

These things depend on probability and statistics, but I
think one possibility is it will break the quantum entanglement.

If it does, with apologies to Martin Luther King, I suspect
she would run down the street screaming, “Free at last!,

And others -- many others in academia AIUI but I might be wrong -- are
post-modernists who assert that truth is culturally determined. That
puts magic, theology, physics and the beliefs held to be certainies by
the MAGA cult all on the same plane.

Remember Alan Sokal's "Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a

Yes, I remember it. Very funny and very sad. Having a PhD and a faculty
position does not guarantee being a scientist. I think they
compartmentalize their thinking so that they can live in two
contradictory worlds at ease.

Flexibility in truth definition is a way to always be right, to have
your cake and eat it too - not *the* truth, but *my* truth and it is
just as good as *your* truth.
